IN THE NEAR GLOOM
Might be something good lurking just down the hall and its name is ReLive. This little Indie enterprise is currently in its pre-alpha stage and it is looking very good so far. Being developed by Inactive Pixel Studios from Down Under ‘ReLive’ appears to be a fresh approach to the ghost infested house story, you see in this one you must solve problems that relate to the ghosts in order to move forward and thus survive the torments of unwanted attention. A release date has not been announced thus far but read the article and keep up with the groups progress.
Welcome to Riven Town or what is left of it. You are Walden, a hunter who lives alone in the woods and you have come to Riven Town to avenge the destruction laid upon it by an elusive monster which is now hunting you. The town burns, the animals lay dead in their stalls, the hunter stirs and the game is now on. This is the demo released by Microblast Games in Oct 2013 on Desura and serves as a good first look at ‘Overcast’; check it out while we wait for the full release coming later in 2014.
A wonderfully campy sort of gig here with some good looking potential from a puzzling point of view. There is a tone in the dialogue and story setup that hints of someone or something stalking in the woods and your friends have gone missing (In the early 80′s your friends would all be in the same room with you and they would all make a bunch of dumb ass decisions that got themselves killed). There is touch of lore with the whole wendigo thing and even a topless witch running around just waiting to give you a big ole hug. The Demo has been out since Dec 2013 and links to the Trickster pages can be found in the full article at HAG. The full game is slated for a Spring 2014 release.
ScyFy, got to love it man; unless your into the tornado shark versus killer croc kinda thing – in that case you got issues my friend. In this case we have Stasis, currently in alpha demo release as of Nov 2013, and the first scyfy to hit the pages of HAG. Being developed by a group called The Brotherhood based out of Johannesburg, South Africa it is a 2D isometric horror/puzzler that takes place on the doomed mining ship Groomlake. You wake up alone and injured, your wife and daughter are missing, the ship your on is falling into the gas giant Neptune and you now have to figure out how to find your loved ones and deliver yourselves from the clutches of corporate evil or whatever it is they have left up there with you. Come, come, the frontier awaits.
Remember Monolith, you know ‘Condemned: Criminal Origins’; well here are a bunch of ex-Monolith folks calling themselves Blackpowder Games with a project in early release that promises to go down as a great classic one day. Betrayer is a spooky, atmospheric, FPS with a horrific twist. Based in the history of the 17th century colony of Virginia that disappeared you are tasked with finding out what happened but the evil Spaniards and the black cloaked skeleton ghouls really don’t give a damn what your intentions are as long as they include being dead. Available on Steam in early release alpha since Aug of 2013 this one stands apart and should be destined for all serious dark gaming libraries.
